Just how thermally efficient are our windows?

Thermal Efficiency is rated by something called a U-Value. It is the measure of heat loss through a building material. The lower the U-value, the more thermally efficient the material is at retaining heat. The higher the U-value the more energy and noise comes through. Lower U-values in windows and doors indicate better insulation and energy efficiency.
